Tamil Nadu: No NEET marks for AYUSH admissions

The Tamil Nadu government has rejected advice of centre to make NEET marks a basis for admissions to colleges teaching Indian systems of medicine and Homeopathy and said that marks of twelfth class would be used for the same as earlier.
This decision to continue with the existing system was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Palaniswami, in which Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, senior ministers and top government officials participated, an official release said.
The meeting at the Secretariat was followed by an advisory from the Union government asking Tamil Nadu to consider NEET marks as a basis for admissions in colleges teaching Indian systems of medicine namely Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy.
The release said that though the Centre had been giving this advice for the past two academic years, Tamil Nadu had expressed its “strong opposition” to the issue.
It stated, “The Centre has already been told that NEET cannot be followed for admissions to Indian systems of medicines”.
AYUSH stands for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The Central Council of Indian Medicine is the body that governs the education in the native streams of medicine.
