Bill to upgrade Homeopathy Council Introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: A bill to revamp the present Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH) with a board of governors and to bring an accountability and quality in Homeopathy education system was introduced in Lok Sabha yesterday.
 
The Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier on May 16.
 
The members of the board of governors will replace the existing functionaries of the CCH and will compromise seven eminent Homeopathy practitioners and administrators. They will be appointed by the government.
 
The initiative comes in the backdrop of allegations of corruption against the office-bearers of the CCH.
 
This bill will replace an ordinance introduced by the government earlier this year. Our law minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad had stated that the need to bring the ordinance arose as several office-bearers were facing allegations of corruption.
He said, “(Chairman of the Council) has been in CBI and other nets…The quality of education is suffering…We want to have a proper, professional Homoeopathic ecosystem for education in the country.”
However, the government sources later said that the ordinance proposes to upgrade the body.
