The holistic approach to treating people cost Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG) about £109,000 per year.
BNSSG CCG was the only organisation of its kind to ‘routinely fund’ homeopathy treatments anywhere in England.
It says scrapping the 40 or so cases each year will save the same amount of money as is required to fund 22 hip replacements or 170 cataract operations.
A CCG spokesman said the organisation ‘needs to make savings of £37million in this financial year as part of a long-term strategy to get health and care spending under control’.
In a public consultation exercise held last summer, three-quarters of the responders said homoeopathy should not be funded on the NHS.
