Abstract

Genital warts (condyloma acuminatum) are a sexually transmitted infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11 6 . These are spread by skin-to-skin contact, usually during coition.

Introduction
These present in clusters or separately and can be found in the genital or anal area 1 . In countries with highly developed medical services, refereral rates of genital warts have greatly increased in the last 50 years. In the UK, there was a marked increase in the
incidence of ano‐genital warts (condylomata acuminata) from the 1970s to the 1990s, with a
continuing rise over the last two decades. The incidence is highest in young adults aged 16–24 years and for this age group is estimated to be 700/100 000.
The incidence and prevalence in males is higher than in females with a male: female ratio of 1: 0.7 1 .
