Acute Pharyngitis is the most common infectious disease. It is caused by many macrobacteria like influenza, coronavirus, rhinovirus, adenovirus, streptococci, etc.(1) characterised by throat pain which is aggravated by swallowing and other symptoms like fever, malaise and headache. (2)

HISTORY OF PRESENTING COMPLAINTS-
Patient came to OPD with complaint of sudden onset of throat pain with burning sensation throat, difficulty in swallowing since 1 day. Pain aggravates while eating and drinking. Along with it she complains of occipital headache which is beating type, pain in both the ears radiating to jaw, decreased appetite and thirst, giddiness and weakness. On checking vital her body temperature was 102°F.
No history of cough, coryza, nasal block, chills, hoarseness of voice or rashes on body.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: –
uvula- redness and inflammation present
throat- redness++
nose- B/L nasal polyp present
anterior cervical lymph- tenderness present
VITALS
temperature- 102°F
BP-110/70mmhg
pulse- 94b/m
SYSTEMIC EXAMINATION:
Respiratory system – NVBS heard, no added sounds.
CVS- S1 S2 HEARD, no murmurs.
DIAGNOSIS– Acute pharyngitis
ACUTE TOTALITY: –
Throat pain
Burning sensation in throat
Difficulty swallowing
< drinking, eating
B/L ear pain radiating to jaw
Weakness
Giddiness
Occipital headache- beating type
TREATMENT: –
- mercurius solubilis 200
1P—1P –1P
For 1 day
FOLLOW UP on next day: –
Throat pain- better
B/L ear pain- better
Weakness – better
Giddiness- better
Occipital headache- better
Appetite- improved
Thirst- improved
CONCLUSION: –
As seen from above case homoeopathy works very well in treating acute case of pharryngitis. There are many remedies in our Materia Medica for pharyngitis. A perfectly selected remedy with proper dosage can cure the patient without any adverse effect.
